Bains Homestay

Ann & Barry Bain welcome our guests to their Arrowtown home, set in an orchard park between two golf
courses. Enjoy the wide-open spaces with all-round views of the mountains and skifields.

We retired from our ships' agency and marine loss assessing business (Lloyd's Agency Surveyor) in 1993
and have since travelled extensively overseas.

After a lifetime in the Province, we have amassed much knowledge of the local history. Barry has been a brass
player since 1942 and has been a member of two National Bands, playing at the World Expositions in Osaka
and Brisbane, the World Music Festival at Kerkrade in the Netherlands (where we won several world titles)
the Commonwealth Games and the Tattoo in Edinburgh, the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto etc.
Barry now plays a tuba in the Roxburgh Band and a battered 1890s Sousaphone in the famous Arrow Miners'
Band. Ann is a former member of the NZ Society of Potters and now concentrates on patchwork and
gardening. She is on the Board of the Lakes District Museum in Arrowtown.

Our home is situated in a quiet off-road locality, yet is only 1300m from the village centre, restaurants, museum
and the Post & Telegraph Office. A short distance down the gorge to the gold medal vinyards.

Bring your gardening clothes. Mow the lawns on our 1949 Allis Chalmers Model G tractor (with its engine in the rear).
Our town car is a rare 1924 Austin 12/4 drophead coupe, with an aluminium body specially built in the UK
for the Anglican Archbishop of New Zealand.
